Manager

Full-time Summer Position, Salaried
Springwood Swim Club ((referred to here as “SCC”) is seeking an energetic, experienced manager to have overall responsibility for ensuring that the club is operated in a safe, clean and fun environment for our members and their guests in line with the Club’s values of:

“Respect, Responsibility, Family Fun and Community”

​SCC is a privately held membership only club with approximately 200-250 households overseen by a Board of Governors (referred to here as BOG”), elected from and by the club membership for a three year term.  Board members are uncompensated volunteers who work in the best interests of the entire group of bondholders and seasonal members. The Club is open to members from Memorial Day to Labor Day each season. Facilities include a heated, spring-fed pool with salt water filtration system, 6 lane, 105 foot pool with diving area, zero-entry kiddie pool, tennis and basketball courts, patio, grove, picnic and barbecue area, and children’s playground. The Club’s Dolphin Swim Team participates in hosting meets during the summer season. Family, children and adult activities are planned and coordinated throughout the season by the Board of Governors and operated in conjunction with the Club’s staff. The facility is contracted by local Summer Day Camps during the week to provide an opportunity for campers to swim and attend swim lessons.

REPORTING
The Club Manager reports directly to Board of Governors.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Manage all aspects of the club to include directly overseeing the pool operations, the physical plant, grounds, and all club sponsored events.
  • Maintain a positive customer service attitude towards members, staff and guests, setting an example for the rest of the staff to model. Create a welcoming, fun, safe, environment for the members and guests.
  • Communicate regularly with BOG regarding pool safety, staff, facilities maintenance, pool and other activities, and membership issues. Communication is done via formal monthly BOG meeting attendance and ongoing dialog throughout the season and year.
  • Be on duty a minimum of 40 hours per week during the active club season (Memorial Day to Labor Day), with the exception of one week vacation during the summer. Manager’s schedule will include both day and evening shifts.
  • Ensure that there is a Manager on Duty during ALL hours of operation.
Facility Management
  • Prepare pool for opening and closing each season including organizing vendors, staff and volunteers, as needed.
  • Maintain, repair or oversee the maintenance and or repair of SCC physical plant within the budgetary constraints as determined by the Board.
  • Insure high standards of pool cleanliness, water clarity, temperature regulation and proper chemical levels, monitoring regularly throughout the day and during the offseason.
  • Insure that the entire facility is clean – including pool and deck surroundings, bathrooms and locker rooms, trash and vacuuming, tennis courts, and the club grounds are well taken care of each day. Maintain respectable cleanliness levels throughout the day.
  • Utilize staff to maintain all areas as appropriate including, but not limited to, repairs, safety, cleanliness, lawn care, weeds, fences, tennis nets, grills, purchase and stock required supplies etc.
  • Maintain, enforce and promote SCC policies regarding safety, pool closings, lightning, medical emergencies, public health and any club rules and regulations as presented by the Board. Instill attention to safety and discipline with lifeguards as well as pool members and guests by communicating and enforcing safety policies, procedures and practices.
  • Ensure that First Aid, CPR, emergency and other safety procedures are accessible at all times during pool operating hours and administered as necessary.
  • Create, maintain and keep current, all operating documentation and manuals for the Club operations.
  • Coordinate scheduling of facility functions, including private parties and club events. This includes managing the scheduling book for reservations of functions.
  • Manage the operations to a budget provided by the BOG. Obtaining prior approval from the BOG before the purchase of non-budgeted items.
  • Periodically check on the facilities for mechanical and security check-ins during the off-season months as agreed with the Board BOG.
  • Notify the President or Vice President of BOG of any issues that may affect the normal day to day operation of the facility. This includes safety issues that may arise during the season.
  • Recommend necessary capital expenditures, equipment and supplies for the safe operations and long-term maintenance of the Club facilities.
Personnel
  • Assist the BOG with hiring the management team. The SCC management team includes the Club Manager and two Assistant Club Managers.
  • Partner with the management team on hiring and supervision of all employees of the Club, having ultimate accountability for staff performance.
  • Design and manage staff schedules in line with operational requirements and budget limitations; enforce employment regulations; and report payroll information in a timely and accurate manner to the Club Treasurer.
  • Insure employees are properly trained in their duties and maintain supporting documentation for required certification for positions – lifeguards, swimming instructors, etc.
  • Maintain staff rotations and breaks are done in a consistent, timely and understood manner.
  • Submit evaluations to the BOG for all staff at the conclusion of the summer; no later than September 30th and hiring recommendations by April 1st of the upcoming year.
  • And such other duties as may be deemed necessary or required by the BOG
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS
  • Required Certifications:
    • Certified Pool Operator (must be acquired prior to start of club’s opening activities)
    • CPR and First Aid
    • Lifeguard Certification
  • Possess knowledge and experience in pool management operations; general management experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education, Recreation Administration, or Business Administration, or equivalent years of experience preferably as Pool or Club Manager or Assistant Pool/Club Manager for at least 4 years.
  • Excellent verbal and written ability to express or exchange ideas, issues and solutions and the ability to effectively communicate detailed and/or important instructions to staff, members, and the general public.
  • Proven to have strong administrative, managerial and supervisory skills with a keen attention to detail and ability to understand the “big picture.”
  • Demonstrates solid character, positive demeanor and has a sincere passion, enthusiasm and leadership experience to manage and build a collaborative customer service minded team.
  • Demonstrates professional yet approachable presence and excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with staff, members, guests, and outside vendors.
  • A teachable spirit, willingness to listen and inspires hard work, positive character building, and effective relationship dynamics among staff, and with members.
  • Effective problem solver – ability to anticipate, respond and resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Embraces and upholds the club’s values in their decision making, leading, building and enforcing of policies and practices for staff hiring, safety standards, and facilities management
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Manual labor is required.
  • Ability to work with pool chemicals.
  • Physical exertions to manually move, lift, carry, or push heavy objects.
  • Climbing in and out of the swimming pool, up and down ladders.
  • Extreme weather conditions may be a factor in this position.
